The Chronicle of Kenneth Thomas: A Knight of the Chessboard and Defender of Youth
Kenneth Thomas was a pillar of strength, a chess master, and a guardian of knowledge whose legacy continues to shape the New Jersey chess community. Rising from the harsh plains of Oklahoma, he served his country with valor in the U.S. Army, handling nuclear weapons with solemn duty. A visionary leader, Ken rescued the United States Chess Federation from financial collapse, taught over 1,500 children the art of chess, and laid the foundation for the New Jersey Chess Club by providing chess sets and mentorship. His fateful call to Bobby Fischer, while rooming with Pal Benko, became part of chess folklore. Ken's generosity and unwavering commitment to youth and community leaves an indelible mark.
